Thank you for your interest in the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada’s (FCAC or Agency) data. FCAC is pleased to share datasets to advance knowledge in the field of financial literacy and financial consumer protection.

The following anonymized Datasets are available for request:

You can request access to one or more Datasets by following the 6 steps below:

A final decision will be provided after FCAC evaluates your submission. FCAC may follow up to request additional information.

Before you proceed, please note:

  1. Submitting your request does not guarantee that you will gain access to the Dataset(s).
  2. If you are requesting Dataset(s) for different projects, please submit a new request for each project.
  3. More than one person may have access to the Dataset(s). Information on your project and contact information for all persons who will access the Dataset(s) is required to complete the Data Request Form.
  4. Please ensure that all persons who will have access to the Dataset(s) review the Data Sharing Terms of Use and provide their details in the Data Request Form prior to submitting the request.
  5. Each Dataset is provided in .csv, .dta (STATA) and .sav (SPSS) alongside the questionnaire and relevant reports. Datasets and corresponding resources are provided in English and French.

Step 1: Select the Dataset(s)

Please select the Dataset(s) you are requesting for your project. Multiple Datasets can be selected for one project.

IMPORTANT: Please note if you are requesting a Dataset for different projects, please submit a new request for each project.

Step 2: Data Sharing Terms of Use (Terms)

Please note that the Data Sharing Terms of Use (Terms) apply to you and to every other person who will have access to the Dataset(s). Accordingly, please ensure that all persons that will have access to the Dataset(s) have reviewed the Terms prior to submitting this request.

  • The information you have submitted to FCAC to request the Dataset(s) is accurate and complete.
  • You may not share the Dataset(s) with third parties.
  • You will use the Dataset(s) for the purpose(s) described in the Data Request Form (Step 3), and for no other purpose.
  • You will preserve the faithfulness of the data collected and ensure the validity and accuracy of the data analysis while using FCAC’s Dataset(s).
  • You will comply with FCAC’s “Technical Guide”.
  • You will provide FCAC with a copy of your findings on the Dataset(s) thirty (30) days prior to their public release.
    Note: FCAC will use your findings for the sole purpose of preparing communications products in relation to the findings. Should FCAC wish to use your findings otherwise, FCAC will contact you for necessary permissions.
  • You must include in your findings the following notice with relevant information: “The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) has contributed some or all of the data used in the analysis for this [specify: e.g., report/paper/publication]. Any findings, views or opinions expressed in this [specify: e.g., report/paper/publication] are those of [specify: e.g., author, organization] and do not necessarily reflect those of the FCAC or the policy or position of any department of the Government of Canada."
  • Without limiting any of FCAC’s rights or remedies, your access and use of the Dataset(s) may be suspended, restricted or terminated effective at any time and without prior notice if, in FCAC’s sole discretion, the Agency believes that you have breached any of the Terms.

Please provide the purpose for which you are requesting the Dataset(s), a description of your use of the Dataset(s) in your project, and some basic information about yourself and all others who will have access to the Dataset(s).

Your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act. FCAC will only use your information to complete this request, deliver your Dataset(s), announce updates, and provide continue support to parties interested in accessing FCAC’s Dataset(s). From time to time, we may inform you of other FCAC news.
